EDFA at the GFA Institutional Mission | Basel

2026-09-09

On 8 and 9 September, EDFA Chair Alessandra Guion-Gambrill joined the Global Fintech Alliance delegation in Basel as Europe’s representative for two days of meetings with the institutions at the heart of global financial policy and supervision:

  • Financial Stability Board (FSB)
  • Basel Committee on Banking Supervision
  • International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS)
  • Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
  • Financial Stability Institute

Digital finance is global by design, and many of the standards that shape European regulation now originate in Basel. For EDFA, that makes it essential to bring the reality of Europe’s national fintech associations and their members into these discussions early.

Topics on the table included cross-border payments and regulatory fragmentation, AI and agentic AI in finance and supervision, tokenisation, digital money and crypto assets, operational resilience and fraud, financial inclusion, and licensing, BigTech and competition.

The message from the institutions was clear: fintech is welcome at the table, provided its input is representative, evidence-based and practical. That is the standard EDFA holds itself to in Brussels, and one we will keep bringing to the global level alongside our GFA partners.

Thank you to Rodrigo Garcia de la Cruz, Segun Aina, Diego Perez and Luis Javier Sanchez Mulligan for a strong mission.
